A wound is an injury caused by the breaking of the skin. It normally resolves without complications in healthy individuals, but the healing time might take longer in people with health problems such as reduced circulation and diabetes, increasing the risk of complications such as infection.
Podiatric treatment of foot wounds includes cleansing of the skin with antimicrobial solution, removal of excessive hard skin, laser therapy to reduce inflammation and accelerate healing, application of sterile dressing, and padding - if needed.
